Spotlight on Support: Moms on the Clock/Campus

As part of The Mommies Network, LakeNormanMommies is a free community for moms in the Lake Norman Area, North Carolina. We realize that all moms need local support -- and who can't use another friend? LakeNormanMommies offers a simple way to connect with local moms for friendship, support and fun. In addition to general discussion forums, LakeNormanMommies offers a variety of specialized support forums for moms to discuss challenges and celebrate successes with other moms in similar situations. One such source of support is the Moms on the Clock/Campus (MOTC) forum.

The MOTC forum provides a venue for sharing, learning and supporting the experiences and challenges of our moms who are working and/or going to school. While some of the needs and experiences of working and campus moms are shared, such as time management, childcare options or learning how to balance the demands of work/school with parenting and relationships, some life issues are unique to each group. Our working moms can count on the MOTC forum for discussions on summer camp recommendations, easy dinner plans, how to handle workplace conflicts, interviewing techniques and resume writing tips, to the ever difficult subject of missing children’s special activities at school due to work schedules. Likewise, our campus moms can get advice from other student moms on study habits, college recommendations, academic writing tips, or financial aid. The MOTC forum is rich with experience and talent, which serves as a wonderful resource for moms entering the workforce and those working hard toward that college degree with plans of launching a new career in the future.

This forum is open to members who have a full- or part-time job, own a business (including making and selling clothes, crafts, etc.), go to school full- or part-time, or plan on returning to work or school soon. If you fit the criteria for membership, click here to request access to this private group. The forum is moderated by a member of The Leadership Team.

Help Wanted

Do you have a great Lakenormanmommie moment to share? Have you hit the forums at 2 am with a sick baby, only to have that pressing question answered by a mommy who’s been right where you are before? Have you found your self looking for something special that you just can't find, and another mommy knows just where to go? Do you hit the calendar on an off day, just to find a great group of women hanging out at the park/coffee shop/etc?

These things don’t just happen, there is a lot going on behind the scenes, there is a literal army of mommies working on many different things. Some of the jobs these women take on involve; event planning, financial services, social media, community outreach, administration, hospitality, new mom meal delivery, the list goes on. A lot of these jobs only take an hour or two a week to make successful. We need moms like you, who are maybe looking to get a little more involved, or who have just got so much from Lakenormanmommies that you want to give back to the community.

We are a team of mommies who respect, and support each other. We work very closely; collaborating, scheming, and plotting. You never have to feel like you can’t help because you don’t know how. None of us did. What we all have in common is we were willing to try, and through that willingness we have built friendships, given back to our community, and empowered ourselves to grow as women and mothers. We hope that you’ll take a look at the Help Wanted forum and see if there is something there that you are interested in.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Let the Spinning Wheel Fly

MrP is obsessed with paint. MrP is obsessed with mixing colors. MrP is obsessed with mixing paint to make different colors. This simple (and relatively mess free) project is the perfect outlet for his need to feed these two obsessions.

Supplies: paint, small container, water, eye droppers, small paper plates, salad spinner

Squeeze paint into containers and dilute with water.

Place a paper plate in the salad spinner.
Use eyedropper to squirt paint on the center of the plate.
Put the lid on the spinner

Spin, spin, spin! Take the lid off the spinner and check your progress.

Spin some more and check again.

Lather, rinse, and repeat with different color combinations.

Happy Color Spinning!
Note: This project does not require any blood, sweat, or tears, but it is more fun with some Blood, Sweat & Tears playing in the background.
