Multiplied Blessings

Tonight I definitely had one of those "mom of multiples" moments. I was cooking supper (with two separate pots of mac n cheese-one dairy free for the kiddos), had clothes running in the washer, talking to the plumber-neighbor under my kitchen sink and my father-in-law, who was supervising the plumber, all while jumping over former sink cabinet contents to get my two-year-old twins seated in their high chairs (which had been relocated to the living room), fed, and cleaned up. Not to mention, the kids were miserable because they didn't take a nap today. I also had to show the plumber-neighbor how the dishwasher works, where our washer hook-up is, and managed to squeeze in bites of supper for myself between conversations. And I was cordial.
As I stood at the door saying goodbye to the plumber and my father-in-law, I had one crying toddler on my hip, and another pulling at my shorts. We went immediately into our bedtime routine as the kids were begging to go to bed. I didn't quite realize the chaos we had just survived until after the kids were in bed and I walked back into the kitchen and living room. There was a war zone, and I'm proud to say we all survived without injury.
People often tell me that they don't know how I can do it (juggling twins and working, church, etc.), they're glad they didn't get that "blessing" in their lives, and they know that God created moms of multiples with a special kind of grace and patience. As I sit here and look at the pile of toys and books on the living room floor, I know they're right. God DID create EVERY parent with a special purpose. I'm feeling incredibly blessed that part of my life's mission is to be the mom of twins (and wife to a super-fabulous hubby). I can't imagine life being any better than this. It's not me that "does it", our life happens only through God’s grace and strength.
